When coordinating high-end shoots, our logistics team will often ask whether shore power will be available at your location. In the entertainment industry, shore power refers to a dedicated, external electrical utility source provided directly by the venue or job site, allowing location production vehicles to plug into the local power grid instead of running an engine.
If shore power isn’t available at your filming location, there’s no need to worry. Every vehicle in the On Time Elite fleet is completely self-sufficient.
Our units are equipped with reliable, heavy-duty onboard generators capable of supplying up to 50 amps of continuous power, allowing them to operate independently anywhere on the East Coast. As long as your total power footprint doesn’t exceed the 50-amp threshold, our generators provide everything needed to run the vehicle comfortably.
The Major Advantages of Utilizing Shore Power
While our onboard generators are highly efficient, connecting directly to local utility power offers two massive benefits for high-profile sets and live broadcast environments:
- Zero Exhaust Fumes: Eliminates any generator emissions near your celebrity talent, wardrobe prep, or high-traffic production areas.
- Acoustic Peace on Set: Drastically reduces operational background noise, creating a perfectly quiet perimeter directly outside the vehicle—ideal for sensitive audio recording or peaceful talent resting zones.
Our fleet is engineered to perform seamlessly utilizing either source, ensuring a flawless setup regardless of your environment.
Technical Shore Power Requirements for All Buses
To successfully connect an On Time Elite vehicle to local utility power, the client, venue, or contracted grip/electrical company must provide a specific, dedicated electrical service.
The Electrical Service Blueprint:
- Voltage: 220/240 Volt
- Amperage: 50 Amp
- Phase: Single Phase
- Receptacle Type: NEMA 14-50R Receptacle (Standard 4-prong RV configuration)
Installation & Infrastructure Rules:
- Certified Setup: The NEMA 14-50R receptacle must be properly wired, tested, and installed by a licensed or certified electrician.
- The Connection: On Time Elite provides the heavy-duty 50-amp shore power cord. Our dedicated on-set drivers will handle the physical connection from the vehicle directly to your pre-installed NEMA 14-50R receptacle.
Production Team Responsibilities
To ensure absolute continuity and maintain our strict “Early is Ready” standard, it is the client’s responsibility to coordinate with the venue or electrical team to ensure the infrastructure is ready.
- Pre-Arrival Staging: The dedicated 220/240V, 50-Amp, Single-Phase circuit and NEMA 14-50R receptacle must be completely installed, energized, and fully safety-tested prior to the vehicle’s arrival. We strongly recommend finalizing this setup days before the official shoot to avoid costly production delays.
- Connection Safety Restraints: To protect the structural integrity of our production fleet rental assets, we cannot accept Cam-Lock connections, bare wire ties, temporary pigtails, or any non-standard connection types. We plug exclusively into a certified NEMA 14-50R outlet.
The Operational Safety Net
If unexpected site limitations prevent your venue from supplying shore power on the day of the shoot, our onboard generator will immediately take over and operate your VIP RV without a single second of interruption, provided the collective electrical load remains within the 50-amp budget.
By mapping out these technical parameters early during your booking, our team ensures your talent, crew, and technical departments have a completely optimized environment from the first call time to the final wrap.
